Department of Sanskrit and Department of English , University of Mumbai organized a Musical demonstration ‘Meera and Me’ by internationally acclaimed playback singer Sanjeevani Bhelande on 24th February 2015, in D. N. Marshal Hall, J.N. Library, between 11.30 am-1.00 pm. She presented various compositions of Saint Meerabai in her sensitive, melodious and soothing voice. She presented all bhajans of Meerabai in unique manner of Hindi-English fusion. She calls her English compositions as ‘songslifications’ and not ‘translations.’ Her sognslifications are composed in various classical Ragas. The Fusion of Classical and Western Music was presented very skillfully by Sanjeevani Bhelande and it mesmerized the audience. She took audience into the musical, spiritual as well as mystic trance.
This musical encounter also had questions-answer session. Students asked questions to Sanjeevani Bhelande regarding her musical journey and her songslifications. She gave elaborate answers to all questions and unfolded her musical journey and experiences with Meerabai’s songs. Dr. Anjali Bhelande stressed the importance of intuitive intelligence while moderating this discussion. Dr. Gauri Mahulikar’s comments revealed that mysticism has no boundaries and this was explained by her through etymological explanation of the word Krishna-‘that which attracts’. It broadened the perspective of students to look at spirituality. Dr. Coomi Vevaina stressing the idea of ‘divine love’ and ‘unification of spiritual experiences’ concluded this programme. This prgoramme appealed young generation to go back to the Saint literature and develop spiritual intelligence.
