Hello,
My name is Gauri Kulkarni, and I am an alumna of MA Sanskrit at the Ramkrishna Bajaj Sanskrit Bhavan, University of Mumbai, Kalina Campus. I am delighted to share my enriching and memorable experience at the Sanskrit Bhavan, a place that has not only deepened my understanding of this ancient language but also shaped me as an individual.
The Sanskrit Bhavan is an extremely well-equipped department, featuring a vast library with an impressive collection of books and a seminar hall that hosts lectures and workshops. The department regularly organises a variety of academic activities, both online and offline, such as the *Yoga seminar*, the *lecture series on the contribution of Dr. Dange*, and the *research methodology workshop*, which have broadened my learning and perspective.
What truly sets the Sanskrit Bhavan apart is its team of dedicated and highly qualified professors, each bringing their unique expertise and passion to the classroom. Their teaching style has made learning Sanskrit an inspiring journey.
*Dr. Madhavi Narsalay ma’am*, an Associate Professor, is deeply passionate about sharing authentic information about the Vedas and Vedic practices. Her commitment to continuous learning and effective teaching is evident in her classes where she teaches about diverse topics such as Vedic religion, mysticism, and mythology, which have added depth to my perspective. Having her as my guide for the dissertation was genuinely a dream come true for me.
*Dr. Shakuntala Gawde ma’am*, the Head of the Department, brings her vast expertise in Vedanta, Darshana, religious studies, and aesthetics into her teaching. Her ability to draw examples from various treatises makes complex topics easier to comprehend and has guided me with clarity.
*Dr. Suchitra Tajane ma’am* (Associate Professor), a connoisseur of literature and a writer herself, has introduced us to the beauty of literature, poetics and rhetorics. From the poetic works of Kalidasa, Bhartrhari, Bharatamuni and others to contemporary literature, she takes her students on an engaging journey through Sanskrit literature, always leaving me inspired.
*Mr. Ajay Pendse sir*, an aficionado of Sanskrit grammar, has a unique way of combining precision and friendliness in his teaching. His scholarship and dedication to grammar are impressive, and his approachable nature makes his classes both informative and enjoyable.
*Mrs. Shobha Sahasrabuddhe madam*, with her expertise in Ancient Indian Sciences, Yogashastra, Kautilya Arthashastra, and Smrti literature, connects ancient wisdom to contemporary perspectives. Her holistic approach to teaching has helped me develop a broader understanding of Ancient Indian Polity and Yogic principles.
*Miss Renuka Panchal ma’am*, with her expertise in Saahitya, Darshana, and Yoga, creates an atmosphere of comfort in her classes. Her friendly nature and research-driven teaching style inspire me to delve deeper into the subjects she teaches.
*Dr. Sriram Iyer sir*, with his expertise on literature, music and Natyashastra, taught with such passion that it made learning the Natyashastra enjoyable, be it the types of theatres, or Dasharupaka, each lecture being a mesmerising experience for me.
The professors at Sanskrit Bhavan have been more than teachers; they have been guides, mentors, and unwavering sources of encouragement. Whether it was deciphering intricate shlokas, exploring philosophical texts, or learning grammar, they were always there to inspire and support. Their mentorship has been instrumental in my academic growth, and winning the *Chancellor’s Medal* this year is not just a personal achievement; it is a testament to the exceptional guidance I have received in this department.
The Sanskrit Bhavan has been a transformative experience, and I will always cherish the knowledge, encouragement, and inspiration that I have gained here. It is truly a place where learning thrives and where every student finds the guidance they need to excel.
