Sanskrit Day celebration at University of Mumbai
Study of ancient science and scriptures is increasingly visible with the popularity of learning Sanskrit language rising. This was indicated by Dr.Malhar Kulkarni, Department of Humanities and Social Science, IIT Mumbai while addressing Sanskrit Day celebration of the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai on Saturday. Dr. Kulkarni, renowned Sanskrit scholar and chief guest of the function pointed out that enthusiasm is the reason of all endeavours and that very enthusiasm leads to the study of sciences and ancient knowledge systems which is the need of the hour.
IIT Mumbai has developed research based on Paninian (Sanskrit) grammar under his leadership and hence his observations are important. He further mentioned that the student friendly syllabus designed by the Sanskrit Department attracts many students. His expertise in the Sanskrit language is also evident from his interest in making Cricket commentaries in Sanskrit.
Due to emphasis given to Sanskrit by New Education Policy, Dr. Kulkarni informed that the Sanskrit subject is being launched at several other IITs. The Sanskrit Department is celebrating Diamond Jubilee on the occasion ofcompletion of 60 Years.
Dr. Shakuntala Gawde, Head of the Department, in her inaugural address, mentioned that the specialised MA courses, with syllabus abiding to the New Education Policy 2020, has received good response. The newly launched course Diploma is Bhagvadgita is running in its full capacity.
The function was organised by Sanskrit department in association with Rtaayan. Dr Gawde, informed that, the department has launched its new Diamond Jubilee logo during the year. Recently, the department has launched 60 Lectures Series on Indian Knowledge Systems to mark 60 glorious years of the department.
The series began with the inaugural lecture by Dr. Gauri Mahulikar on the World Sanskrit Day. A lecture on Brihadaranyaka Upanishad was given by one of our senior most alumnus Dr. Vijay Pandya. Past students of the department interviewed renowned poet Dr.Harshadev Madhav. The series will see many such scholars, teachers and past students of the department speak on different topics of Indian Knowledge Systems. The department also launched bookmarks on various themes as their merchandise with an intention to promote Sanskrit literature and scriptures.
The event also saw prize distribution among meritorious students of the part time courses conducted in the department and young students who had participated in the Katha Kathan Competition. Enthusiastic students of MA part 2 showcased their talent adding music and colour to the event.

उत्साह हे सर्व प्रयत्नांचे बीज आहे आणि अतिशय उत्साहाने विज्ञान आणि प्राचीन ज्ञान प्रणालींचा अभ्यास करणे ही काळाची गरज आहे, असे प्रतिपादन डॉ. मल्हार कुलकर्णी, मानविकी आणि सामाजिक विज्ञान विभाग, आयआयटी मुंबई यांनी शनिवारी मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या संस्कृत विभागाच्या संस्कृत दिन सोहळ्याला संबोधित करताना केले. संस्कृत भाषा अध्ययनाची लोकप्रियता वाढल्याने प्राचीन विज्ञान आणि धर्मग्रंथांचा अभ्यास वाढत आहे, असेही ते म्हणाले.
आयआयटी मुंबईने पाणिनियन (संस्कृत) व्याकरणावर आधारित संशोधन सुरु केले आहे आणि त्यामुळे त्यांची निरीक्षणे महत्त्वाची आहेत. त्यांनी पुढे नमूद केले की, संस्कृत विभागाने तयार केलेला विद्यार्थी अनुकूल अभ्यासक्रम अनेक विद्यार्थ्यांना आकर्षित करतो. संस्कृत भाषेतील त्यांचे प्राविण्य संस्कृतमध्ये क्रिकेट समालोचन करण्याच्या त्यांच्या आवडीवरूनही दिसून येते. डॉ. कुलकर्णी यांनी सांगितले की, नवीन शैक्षणिक धोरणात संस्कृतवर भर दिल्याने इतर अनेक आयआयटी शाखांमध्ये संस्कृत विषय सुरू करण्यात आला आहे.
मुंबई विद्यापीठाच्या कलिना कॅम्पसमध्ये संस्कृत विभागाच्या वतीने शनिवार दि. ३० सप्टेंबर २०२३ रोजी संस्कृत दिन साजरा करण्यात आला. यंदाच्या संस्कृत दिनाला अतिथी म्हणून डॉ. मल्हार कुलकर्णी (प्राध्यापक, आय. आय. टी., पवई) उपस्थित होते. दरम्यान कार्यक्रमाच्या वेळी व्यासपीठावर विभागप्रमुख डॉ. शकुंतला गावडे, डॉ.माधवी नरसाळे, डॉ. सुचित्रा ताजणे, यांच्यासह प्रेक्षकांत मोठ्या संख्येने विद्यार्थी, अभ्यासक उपस्थित होते. विभागप्रमुख डॉ. शकुंतला गावडे यांनी संस्कृत विभागाने गतवर्षी आयोजिलेल्या कार्यक्रमांचा धावता आढावा प्रास्ताविकात घेतला. संस्कृत विभाग ६० वर्षे पूर्ण झाल्याच्या निमित्ताने हीरक महोत्सव साजरा करत आहे. विभागाच्या प्रमुख डॉ. शकुंतला गावडे यांनी आपल्या उद्घाटनपर भाषणात नमूद केले की, नवीन शैक्षणिक धोरण २०२० चे पालन करणाऱ्या अभ्यासक्रमासह विशेषीकृत एम.ए. अभ्यासक्रमांना चांगला प्रतिसाद मिळत आहे. भगवद्गीता हा नवीनच सुरू झालेला डिप्लोमा अभ्यासक्रम पूर्ण क्षमतेने चालू आहे. डॉ. माधवी नरसाळे यांनी प्रमुख अतिथींचा परिचय करून दिला.
संस्कृत विभागाने ऋतायन यांच्या संयुक्त विद्यमाने हा कार्यक्रम आयोजित केला होता. डॉ. गावडे यांनी माहिती दिली की, विभागाने वर्षभरात आपला नवीन हीरक महोत्सवी लोगो लॉन्च केला आहे. विभागाची ६० गौरवशाली वर्षे पूर्ण करण्यानिमित्त विभागाने भारतीय ज्ञानप्रणालीं वर ६० व्याख्यानांची मालिका सुरू केली आहे.
जागतिक संस्कृत दिनानिमित्त डॉ.गौरी माहुलीकर यांच्या उद्घाटनपर व्याख्यानाने मालिकेची सुरुवात झाली. ‘बृहदारण्यक उपनिषद’ या विषयावर विभागाचे ज्येष्ठ माजी विद्यार्थी डॉ. विजय पंड्या यांचे व्याख्यान झाले. विभागातील माजी विद्यार्थ्यांनी प्रख्यात कवी डॉ.हर्षदेव माधव यांची मुलाखत घेतली. संस्कृत साहित्य आणि धर्मग्रंथांना प्रोत्साहन देण्याच्या उद्देशाने विभागाने विविध संकल्पनांवर बुकमार्क्स लाँच केले आहेत. त्यानंतर विभागातील विशेष प्राविण्य प्राप्त करणाऱ्या विद्यार्थ्यांचा सत्कार करण्यात आला. विभागातील विद्यार्थ्यांनी त्यानंतर विविध गुणदर्शनाचा कार्यक्रम सादर केला. डॉ. सुचित्रा ताजणे यांनी आभारप्रदर्शन केले.
