Students and faculty from the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai, participated in an Anuvād Kāryaśālā (Translation Workshop) held on 21–22 February 2026 at N. D. Studio Film World, Karjat.

The workshop was organised as an inter-linguistic dialogue focused on the practice and philosophy of translation. The programme brought together eminent scholars and practitioners representing multiple Indian languages including Marathi, Hindi, Sindhi, Gujarati, Sanskrit, Telugu, Bengali, and Gorbanjara.

The speakers highlighted that translation extends far beyond the literal rendering of grammar and vocabulary. They emphasised the importance of cultural context, metaphors, idiomatic expressions, and the deeper semantic layers embedded within languages. Through their discussions, the scholars underscored the responsibility of translators in preserving both meaning and cultural nuance.

Eight postgraduate students from the Department of Sanskrit attended the workshop under the guidance of Priya Omale. The participating students were Harshal Khade, Gunvanti Purohit, Suvarna Pote, Dr. Dattatray Jagtap, Vikash Wadekar, Hitesh Jadav, Amitabh Das, and Purabi Ghosh.

Participants were also encouraged to engage with translation activities supported by the Sahitya Akademi, including visiting the Badlapur library and contributing to ongoing literary translation initiatives.

The workshop provided valuable insights into the interdisciplinary and cultural dimensions of translation and served as an enriching academic experience for the students.
