Dr. Gauri Mahulikar inaugurated Diamond Jubilee year celebration of the Department of Sanskrit today. She also inaugurated the newly designed logo for the Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai for diamond jubilee celebration. Dr. Shakuntala Gawde (Head, Department of Sanskrit, University of Mumbai) explained the meaning of logo. Here three symbols are merged into one. Veena represents the eternal nada, the primordial sound for the yogins conferring eternal waves of bliss. Veena is the source for nada, the shabda sphota of the vaiyakaranas.
Swan symbolizes viveka – nityanityavastuviveka of Vedanta, vivekakhyati of yogashastra and epitome of grace in Sanskrit poetry. It is the symbol of truth, knowledge and beauty (satyam, shivam, sundaram). Surprisingly, swan also looks like Naga which suggests the awakening of Kundalini leading to amrutanubhava in the sahasrara represented by lotus. Sahasrara cakra is depicted by thousand petaled lotus. When a yogin is able to raise the kundalini up to this point then the state of nirvikalpa samadhi is experienced.
Hamsa and Veena is a unique combination representative of the constant Ajapa Gayatri in the Paramahansa yogins. Veena suggests the harmony. Our vision statement Sanskritam Janaya represents that. We grow together harmoniously making the resonance of Sanskrit language. May this Sanskrit language impart material as well as transcendental fruit to all its learners.
